Redsi the Robin

Nov. 28th Sunday, Advent Day 1

28 November, 2021

I
was enjoying the new trust between me and a visiting robin redbreast. It appeared in our.. For some unknown reason, it attached itself to our home and family.
As the days went by my children named them ‘Redsi’.

Gradually ‘Redsi’ became more daring, brave and trusting. Sometimes he/she would hop around the garden after us like a wee puppy. When he/she was cold and hungry she would arrive at the kitchen window and wait, anxiously trusting that he/she would be let in, watered and fed. We were only too happy to do so. Sometimes she/he would demand our attention by hoping around our kitchen table anxiously. We used keep special treats for her/him: fallen seeds, worms, insects and pieces of fruit for such occasions.

This was a sad day for us: ‘Redsi’  flew away. We waited in vain for her/him to return but he/she never did. We felt we lost a trusting friend.

‘Redsi’  has made a comeback today and brought a friend to boot.
As the late, great, Gaybo would say: We were delighted and excited’.

During this Advent time, as we all wait for Christmas, we need, not lose faith, but continue to trust that the Lord will come again this year and remain with us – and He will! It’s just a question of waiting, hoping, preparing and praying.

Come Lord, Jesus.
