Hosea was an Old Testament prophet lived about 730 years or so before Jesus. His private tragedy was he had the heartbreak of an unfaithful wife, Gomer, by name. It seems that after the birth of their first child, she bore two more children of which Hosea was not father. Eventually she left Hosea and was enslaved in the slave/sex industry of the day.

Hosea, despite Gomer’s continued infidelity, still loved her and made every effort to win her back. Out of his own love and grief experiences, he was inspired by the parallels between his personal plight with Gomer and God’s love for a sinning world and. In the end Hosea and Gomer were reunited. This led Hosea to see the nature of God relationship to us as a loving, forgiving and hopeful God, despite all our misdeeds.
