Intolerable Conduct

Dec 13, 3rd Monday of Advent

13 December, 2021

Isaiah prophesied the coming messiah over 600 years before the birth of Christ. We Christians believe that Isaiah’s prophecy unmistakably referred to Jesus and pointed to him as the long expected Messiah (the anointed one) of old.
“For unto us a child is born,
unto us a son is given:
and the government shall be upon his shoulder:
and his name shall be called
Wonderful: Counsellor,
The Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” …Isaiah 9:6-7

Think of the famous World War I Christmas Eve Truce of 1914, 107 years ago, when ordinary German and British soldiers refused to go on fighting on Christmas Day and met in no-man’s-land’ to sing Christmas songs and carols together, to exchange presents and hugs, and showed each other pictures of their families whom they loved.

Sergeant Bernard Joseph Brookes, a Christian was so deeply moved that day that he wrote in his diary:
‘It was a beautiful night and a sharp frost set in, and when we awoke in the morning the ground was covered with a white coating. It was indeed an ideal Christmas, and the spirit of peace and goodwill was very striking in comparison with the hatred and death-dealing of the past few months. One appreciated in a new light the meaning of Christianity, for it certainly was marvelous that such a change in the attitude of the opposing armies could be, wrought by an event which happened night on 2000 years ago.

Sir John French, the Commander of the British Expeditionary Force, was so deeply disturbed by what he saw that day he wrote:
‘I issued immediate orders to prevent any recurrence of such intolerable conduct in the future….

Come Lord Jesus
