INTRODUCTION

The Cat Did Not Know begins at the birth of Jesus and follows a slightly unusual path through to the first Easter.

It tells the story of Christ through the eyes of a small cat that follows Jesus from his birth in Bethlehem through the key events of his life and ends with his crucifixion and resurrection. If, at the beginning, the cat does not know a lot, by the end he has learned much about the life of Jesus.

The shadow crept in with the darkness
Just as the woman cried
It sounded quite harsh in the silence
So he sat, in the dark, by her side
He saw the pain wrinkle her forehead
As he settled back into a nook
He could offer no help or no comfort
Beyond being there and daring to look
And when the great suffering ended
She smiled and relief lit her eyes
He blinked before settling down for a sleep
And ignored the angel-filled skies
The man and the woman looked weary
The child looked wrinkled and dazed
The cat backed away from the shuffling feet
As the shepherds adoringly gazed
The couple were sleeping at daybreak
The baby looked fragile and small
The cat watched quietly until they awoke,
When he purred as he walked from the stall.
