Mgr Ciaran O’Carroll, rector of the Irish College in Rome and a first cousin of the esteemed broadcaster, admitted to mourners in St Brigid’s Church, Kill, Co Kildare that the news of her death “came as a dreadful shock”.
“The creation of an App is very much part and parcel of what it is to be a modern parish in the always connected world that we are all part of.”
The parish is not an “outdated institution” because it has flexibility and can assume different “contours” depending on the missionary nature of pastor and community.
Archbishop Michael Neary described the artwork and said: “It is difficult to find a language which would capture the beauty and magnificence of what we behold and yet isn’t it just a shadow of the reality which those 15 people looked upon on that August evening at the gable end a few yards away.”
The closure was a necessary response to falling numbers of those entering the convent, but was a sad moment.
It has made me stop and think as a parent how to best live out the gospel.
