Pope Francis fully recognises the egregious failures of the Church and it's clergy who abused children and the devastating impact those crimes have had on survivors and their loved ones. 

Many of those who worked on the cathedral, or who were altar servers, choir members, ushers and volunteers on the opening day fifty years ago were also present.
