The well-known broadcaster and rugby pundit, George Hook, is among the speakers lined up for this year’s Solemn Novena of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in the diocese of Kildare and Leighlin.
The 11th Solemn Novena begins on Monday 4th April and will run for nine consecutive Monday nights in Graigcullen parish.
The theme for this year’s Novena is ‘Exploring God’s Mercy’ and each night of the Novena the guest speaker will speak on this theme.
George Hook will open the series of addresses on 4 April and will be followed on 11 April by Elysha Brennan, Rose of Tralee and medical student.
On 18 April, RTE’s Northern Ireland Correspondent Tommie Gorman will give the talk on mercy and he will be followed the week after by Christy Kenneally, writer and broadcaster.
On 2 May, Sr Consilio MBE, founder of Cuan Mhuire which is celebrating 50 years will give the novena address and a blessing with Holy Oils will take place during Mass.
Other speakers include Kate Liffey, National Director for Catechetics & Co-ordinator of the National Faith Development Team; Rev Brian Anderson, President of the Methodist Church in Ireland; Sean Boylan, herbalist and All Ireland winning Meath football manager and the novena will conclude with an address by Rev Pat Storey, Bishop of Meath & Kildare – the first female Bishop in the Church of Ireland.
