Alpha Ireland’s first national conference will be held at the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel in Co. Laois from 18 to 19 October.
According to their website, Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith, typically run over eleven weeks. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation.
Alpha is run all around the globe in a variety of venues including cafés, churches, universities, and peoples’ homes. Alpha series usually include food, a talk and an opportunity to converse with others searching for a deeper understanding of the Christian faith.
The Alpha Ireland Conference 2019, also known as AIC19: DISCOVER, is a two-day event in which church leaders will come together, learn and network.
The ‘DISCOVER’ theme, according to Alpha Ireland, is a call for leaders to come and learn how to turn their parishes from maintenance to mission and to explore how Alpha can slot into a framework that is inviting, outward looking and welcoming for young people to the heart of the Church.
National Director of Alpha Ireland, Dominic Perrem, says: ‘We are so pleased to welcome these inspiring speakers from home and abroad to help us all continue the path from maintenance to mission in our parishes and communities.
Alpha is a tool that is made for the Church and we’re really looking forward to a conference that will show us all how to build a new culture of mission around Alpha and the parish.’
Speakers at the conference will include Keynote Ron Huntley, co-founder of Divine Renovation Ministry, a highly successful and well-known Catholic renewal programme; Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan of Waterford and Lismore; Archbishop Michael Jackson; Louise Jones, Assistant Pastor at St Catherine’s Church in Dublin; and Jasper Rutherford of Christ In Youth Ministries.
Alpha Ireland is expecting hundreds to attend their conference which begins on Friday 18 October at 7 p.m.
