Fr Paddy Byrne (Kildare & Leighlin Diocese) hopes that his twitter account (@frpaddybyrne) will be a source of encouragement and reflection for people.
Twitter is based on sending short messages known as tweets – not more than 140 characters long. Users ‘follow’ or subscribe to other people’s accounts which allows them to see all their messages. It is also possible to include links to web content in a tweet.
Speaking about this initiative which began during Lent, Fr Paddy said –
My hope is that I can somehow help people in their daily journey through the season of Lent. It is a time of grace, a season when we can awaken spiritually. We re-consider many things, including how Christ is calling us to follow him.
I am amazed and delighted with the number of followers the account has attracted. It is something new to a lot of us but there is no doubt that the ‘on-line’ community is so vast, so we need to be part of it in some way.
Pope John Paul mentioned once that “every generation is like a new continent to be won for Christ”. The digital world presents very much like that kind of challenge. I hope this modest initiative will help share the Good News.
